Reviewing Current Project Costs

When you log into Business Central as a project manager, you’re presented with a customized dashboard that’s tailored for your specific role within your organization.

From the dashboard, you can quickly gain an overview of Job Actual Price vs. Budget Price, Job Profitability, Job Actual Cost compared to Budget Cost, and more. When you hover over a specific job under one of these headings, Business Central will show you the corresponding numbers as well as the price variance between them.

Managing Tasks and Planning Lines in Business Central

Need more detail? Business Central makes it easy to drill down into job details. Simply click on one of the graphs displayed on your Business Central dashboard, and you’ll be taken to a screen which displays all of the individual job tasks that are assigned to that particular project.

From the top ribbon, you can click the Job Planning Lines button to open all of the planning lines associated with that job. As the job progresses, any corresponding transactions -- including job-related purchases, materials usage, and so on -- will be posted here directly in the job journal.

Posting Sales Invoices and Sending Invoices to Customers

To create and post a sales invoice associated with the transactions in the job journal, all you have to do is click the Create Sales Invoice button in the top ribbon. Once you click OK, you’ll return to the Business Central dashboard. From here, you can select Sales Invoices at the top of your screen to review the invoice that was just posted. All it takes is a couple of clicks to send this invoice directly to the appropriate customer.
