Sales Opportunity Alerts and Inspecting Overdue Opportunities in Dynamics 365 Business Central

When you first log into Business Central as a sales manager, you’ll have access to a pre-built, role-tailored dashboard that provides you with easy access to a range of relevant data, including an overview of the current sales pipeline.

When you scroll down, you’ll see that one of the tiles under Opportunities is labeled Overdue Opportunities. Click on this tile, and you’ll be taken to the Overdue Opportunities page. Here, you can see a list of any overdue sales opportunities. It’s easy to sort the list using the columns at the top: for example, you can sort by Estimated Value, Date of Change, Chance of Success, and more.

Select one of the opportunities, and then click on the Show Opportunity Card button at the top of the screen. This provides you with a detailed overview of the status of the sales opportunity. Under the Statistics heading on the right side of the screen, you can see how many interactions have occurred for this particular opportunity. Click the number, and you’ll be taken to a list of the sales interactions. You can quickly see how these interactions went by looking at the assessment given under the Evaluation column.

To view the sales rep’s comments about a particular interaction, select it and click the Comments button at the top of the screen. This gives you detailed insight into the status of the opportunity, allowing the sales manager to provide the organization’s leadership team with an accurate picture of how likely it is that a particular opportunity can be closed.

Accessing Inventory Quantity

One of the best things about Dynamics 365 Business Central is its ability to provide team members with the information they need to make better, smarter decisions. By giving a sales manager improved insight into inventory quantity and forecasts, the sales manager can make better decisions related to inventory management.

At the top of the dashboard, click Items. This provides an overview of the company inventory, with detailed inventory counts for each item. Click the Forecast drop down menu on the right side of the screen, and select the Show Sales Forecast option. You’ll immediately be able to see the upcoming monthly sales forecast for whichever item is selected. By toggling back to the Inventory Forecast, you can check to see if you’ll have adequate inventory for a given item in the coming months, or if you need to order more of an item.

If you click the Report drop down menu, mouse over Inventory, and select Inventory Statistics or Inventory Details, Business Central will generate reports offering detailed insights into sales numbers and current inventory status. Is there an item that’s selling poorly? Thanks to the insights gained from Business Central, a sales manager might determine that it’s time to run a promotion on a particular item.

Reviewing Sales Opportunities

One of the most powerful aspects of Business Central is its seamless integration with other Microsoft tools, including Power BI.

On the Business Central dashboard, click the drop-down menu in the top left corner of your screen and select Power BI. This will take you to the Power BI Workspaces dashboard, where you can quickly drill into details related to inventory sales. By clicking on a particular item and selecting Opportunity Details, you’ll have access to a tremendous amount of information related to sales opportunities. Under the Workbooks heading, you’ll notice that it’s possible to publish Excel spreadsheets directly into Power BI, giving you the ability to access detailed information on a particular account right from your Power BI workspace.
