How to Set Up a New Company in Dynamics 365 Business Central

Setting up a new company in Dynamics 365 Business Central is actually quite easy. As a business owner, you can set up your company in a matter of minutes. Below, we’ll cover the basic steps involved in getting started with Business Central, including:

Setting Up a New Company in Dynamics 365 Business Central

To get started with setting up a new company, open Dynamics 365 Business Central and use the search feature to search for “Companies.” Next, open the Companies page.


From here, click the Create New Company button in the top-left corner of your screen. This will open a Company Creation Wizard which will guide you through the steps of setting up your new company. Click Next, enter the company name, click Next again, and then select Finish.

Now, it’s time to use the wizard to get your company set up. Do this by going to the settings toggle in the top right corner of the screen. Under settings click Company Information so you can enter basic company info such as the company address, logo, phone number, email, website, account details, tax and bank information, and other important items.


Finally, you’ll be asked to enter the start date of your company’s fiscal year and costing method (FIFO, LIFO, Specific, Average, or Standard). Once this information has been entered into the system, you’re done! You’ve successfully set up a new company in Business Central.


Getting Started with Business Central

Now that you’ve set up your company in Business Central, let’s take a look at how you can get started with some of the software’s essential features.


In the top right, click the Question Mark, and you can type any topics or questions into the search bar beneath the Help section. You can search things like:


● Set up my company

● Learn about Dynamics 365

● Access all features

● Migrate business data

● Set up sales tax

● Set up bank integration

● Add a customer

● Add an item

● Create a job


...and more.


Many of these links include an online help document, embedded setup video, assisted setup wizard, and/or product tour. These resources make it easy to set up your new company.


Migrate Business Data to Dynamics 365 Via Excel

Let’s take a look at just how easy it is to continue with the company setup process.


Imagine that you’ve watched the Migrate Business Data setup video, and now you’re ready to migrate your business data from Excel into Dynamics 365. From the dashboard, click the settings toggle in the top right, and click Assisted Setup. Then select Migrate Business Data. In the popup window, click Next, select the appropriate data source (Excel), and then click Next again.

If you’d like to use a template to migrate your data, click the Download Template button. You can then fill in the template with your data. Click the Next button, choose the appropriate Excel file, and then verify that the appropriate boxes are checked on the next screen. For example, if you’re importing Customer and Vendor data, these boxes should be selected.


Finally, click Migrate to import your Excel data into Business Central. That’s it! You’ve migrated your business data. To confirm, you can select Customers, Vendors, or Items from the top of your screen and view the data you’ve just imported.
