Enhanced Features in Field Services and Project Operations Now Available

Updated: Jul 7, 2023

Microsoft’s wave one release includes enhanced scheduling capabilities in Field Services and streamlined task management in Project Operations.

September 2021

Earlier this year, Microsoft announced they would be releasing hundreds of new features to Dynamics 365. Among the hundreds of new features released, Field Services and Project Operations were equipped with long-awaited capabilities. Within Field Services, users now have access to an updated Dataverse schedule board; Project Operations now leverages Project for the Web functionality, creating a more efficient task management process.

More information about these features can be found below.

New Schedule Board in Field Services

Dynamics 365 Field Services is designed specifically for businesses that frequently conduct work outside of the office (i.e. construction, installation, pest control, etc.). The end-to-end solution features invoice processing, asset management, and scheduling—all on an easy-to-use platform.

Scheduling, which is built on top of Universal Resource Scheduling, provides users with a fast, efficient way to schedule appointments or service activities. Users can easily see the availability of colleagues, equipment, and facilities, helping them to plan accordingly. Customer service teams can also utilize the tool to ensure the proper scheduling of representatives.

To extend the power of scheduling, users can now connect Dataverse appointments with Field Services, enabling them to see and adjust all appointments within the schedule board. Appointments marked with a ‘busy’ status cannot be booked over, reducing the chances of employees overbooking themselves.

Streamlined Task Management in Project Operations

Project Operations, Microsoft’s ‘one-stop-shop’ project management tool, provides users with the agility, collaboration, and visibility needed to complete projects from start to finish. The intelligent tools featured within the platform enable users to identify new opportunities, manage resources, record time and expenses, send payments, and more.

As part of the wave one release, the platform now leverages Project for the Web functionalities. The updated platform allows users to use a grid, Kanban, or timeline or Gantt control to add tasks to book and manage resources. This provides users with a faster, simplified experience within Project Operations, saving valuable time and effort.
